Mediation is a flexible and confidential process used to settle a dispute between two or more people, businesses or other organisations.
It involves appointing a qualified Mediator, who is an independent and impartial third person, to help the parties talk through the issues, negotiate, and come to a mutually agreeable solution.
You can mediate before taking legal action, while legal action is ongoing, or instead of legal action to save time and money.
Confidential and cost-effective
The average cost of divorce or separation in the UK is £14,561 plus VAT. The rates charged by mediators are substantially lower than those of solicitors. You pay for one mediator instead of two solicitors and avoid escalating costs. Mediation is a private, confidential process that is significantly more affordable than litigation.
Faster resolution
In 2024, children’s law cases were taking an average of 43 weeks to reach conclusion in family courts. Mediation is quick and efficient, typically 1-4 sessions, with most cases resolved in 2-3 months.
Convenient and accessible
We offer online mediation across the UK, allowing you to resolve disputes remotely at a time that’s convenient.
Reduces the emotional and physical impact of conflict
Mediation reduces the emotional toll on all parties, including children. It fosters a safe environment where everyone can express their views and work toward mutual understanding.
You control the outcome
Unlike court, where a judge makes the final decision, mediation empowers you to decide what’s best for your family. It’s a voluntary process that allows you to explore all options and reach an agreement on your terms.
Flexible solutions
Mediation offers creative solutions that may not be available in court. Whilst the mediation sessions are ‘without prejudice’ agreements can be made legally binding through court orders after mediation
Ongoing support for changing circumstances
As your family’s needs evolve, mediation provides a cost-effective way to revisit and adjust arrangements, whether it’s schooling, residence, or other important matters.

A Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM) is a short meeting with a qualified mediator where you will be provided with information about mediation as a way of resolving your issues. The Mediator will assess whether mediation is an appropriate option based on your individual circumstances and you then decide if you’d like to book your first session.
It is a legal requirement to attend a MIAM before making an application to court for a financial or child arrangements order in most cases.
Attending a confidential Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) is the first step to resolution; it’s here that you have an opportunity to find out more about mediation and if it’s right for you.
If mediation is not suitable/wanted, and a signed court form is required, the Mediator can provide this at the end of the session (no extra fee).
If you’re willing to mediate, we contact the other person/s to offer them a MIAM.
If they are also willing to mediate then we book your first mediation session. You will each decide on the specific areas of conflict or concern you’d like to address and this will form an agreed agenda. Our Mediator’s then skilfully support you through the mediation process to reach agreement.
Our team will support you throughout the process to ensure you’re making informed decisions.
